Long time lurker, first time poster (thanks for all the help!!!).......

I'd like to know if any Canadian RHD owners have experianced any issues or hassles when entering or driving in the US. I'm refering to honest to goodness visits, NOT importing. I'm particularly interested in experiences along the WA-MT/BC-AB border and along the I-15 corridor (Calgary-Salt Lake City). The vehicle would be Alberta registered, tagged and insured.

I'm considering replacing my 1991 FJ80 with an 1990-1995 HDJ80/81 (anybody have a good one for sale in southern Alberta - let me know).

Cheers

Jeff

If such a restrictive country regarding cars as Spain allows RHD cars, I'd say the US would even allow a under the bonnet hand drive considering the kind of mods people do without legal problems.

Anyway, people here think I'm totally crazy for using a RHD car in a LHD country. I'm glad to hear there are so many people in Canada doing the same without problems,

I'm so happy with my RHD HDJ81, I bought a LHD dash and some LHD steering parts thinking of swapping it, but I'm used to it and I won't pay the big money that the transformation costs.

Same here, my Land Rover is RHD while it's a LHD country. I just bought some 80Series axles for it and they are LHD. I already bought the RHD steering arm to convert it:).
I stay RHD, I love it!

RHD vehicles are 100% Legal. Sheila (My RHD HJ60) was my daily driver for about 2 years. Not only was it not a problem, but I was never even pulled over in that truck, which is odd because I have a lead foot, even in a slow vehicle.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm not so much worried about the legalities of driving a RHD vehicle in the US, it's the reality of over-zealous border guards an small town cops. It's good to hear that nobody has had any bad experiences.

Cheers

I have been into the states twice with my truck with no real problems. Both times they told me to make sure that I don't drive on the wrong side of the road. (Because we do here :hhmm:) Both times it was harder to come back into Canada then it was to get into the states. (More Q's about the truck)

Cheers

Just before Christmas I drove from Edmonton to Phoenix (I15 etc.) in my RHD HJ61 with no problems. The border guard seemed cranky and said somewhat sarcastically that I was on the wrong side.He was not happy to see me that was for sure but I don't think he wanted to see anyone? He confiscated my two apples and sent me on my way. Oh, just make sure you have your passport and all documents out before you pull up; he was a little twitchy and did not like me going into my bag to get something. I guess I can sympathise, those guys must be under a lot of stress these days.

Have a good trip.

I've driven my RHD BJ42 into Canada a few times to head to the dentist's office. (Laq Megantic, QC). I always have more headaches going into Canada than coming into the U.S. I've never been bothered about the RHD aspect of my truck in either direction.

I just drove mine across on Wednesday. It was my third time crossing with it at the Couts Alberta/Sweetgrass Montana border and I have never had a problem. The one time the US customs officer even joked that their was a fine for driving on the wrong side and that he would accept cash.

My wife crossed before christmas with our hj61 it drew alot of attention, but no problems. Customs was curious/ intrigued.
