Both of those weekend are out for me :frown: ..But then again that whole month will prob. be out so that I can go to SNT this year. I think that it sounds like a blast and would love to join you guys on next years mojave run...hint..hint..late Jan./early Feb. is always good for me;) .

January may work better (more time to practice our cooking skills:D ), anyone know what the Mojave is like that time of year temp and weather wise??? I am open for both dates in October will have to swap some days at work but that usually isn't a problem. The more lead time the better for me as I can usually get my Mother in Law to fly in and watch the kids for a couple of days and that makes it easier.

Just a thought we could do a prerun with a couple of trucks in October and map out where to camp and a have a gameplan so the trip with a bigger group in January goes smooth???
 
Jan of next year sounds good - Reserving 3-4 days will be much easier in a brand new year.

I can imagine it would be cooler than Oct also and not much worry about cooling issues (if thats something to worry about).
 
Jan would probably be better for all it sounds. Trip that long needs a little more planning time. The only thing I can think of that might be a problem in Jan would be rain. HawkDriver's photos show just how bad it can get with a little water. I understand that flash floods are pretty common in the area. The weather can only be predicted so far in advance so no use worrying now. I like Rays idea of a Pre-run. So I say shoot for mid Jan and see if we can throw a pre-run together in a few months. What say all?
 
My eyes and ears are very perked....I am VERY excited about this possibility. The rain actually looked pretty cool to me....flash floods sound deflating. But those pics were cool to me...I kinda miss the rain I used to get back east. Let's make this happen...Who knows maybe we could have 20 -25 rigs and make this an annual trip...

Weather wise mid fall and mid spring are the best times to visit.

Oct is much better than Jan if you ask me especially since you have ~ hour more of daylight or at least it seems that way with daylight savings time. A large portion of the trail is actually above 3K and it can get chilly & even snow in the high country in the winter like it did on us on year, which was actually a blast. The other potential problem with a winter run is the soda lake crossing which can become a muddy quagmire so you have to check with the NPS for conditions and bypass if necessary which would be disappointing since this is one of the most unique/fun sections of the trail.

I'll propose March - April '07 as a good target possibility for a larger group because in the past that month has worked great for the groups I've went with. Either that or Oct - Nov this year

The camping spots are pretty much known/limited in the preserve and documented in the book so you don't really need to scout for those but I know some :cool: primitive ones off the beaten path that folks will enjoy.

Slomo, Brent was saying that the NORCAL guys already have a Mojave trip planned for Oct. ? I don't have any details but they seem to limit their runs # of rigs? :mad:
 
Well there you have it. I got the impression that it would be better for most involved in our group if we shot for something next year due to the days required to run it mellow and see the sights. I have been a little out of the loop. My hard drive fried. Thanks for the info.

How about around the last weekend in March?
 
I ran the trail west to east 3 years ago with a group of...sorry to say...Rover guys. Great trail, scenery, nothing very technical just need to stay alert. Ended up pulling a stuck 110 out of a water crossing and a Dodge pickup out of some deep mud.

It would be great to do again especially with the ever reliable cruiser family.
 
Sounds fun...I need more mud. Silly new job with bosses suggesting I wash off the mud on my Lexus because it somehow makes their business look bad....:crybaby:

Ha....no, I'm in Alta Loma, CA now. The land of super shiny lifted trucks on 98% bald mud terrains that never leave the pavement....

isn't that the strangest thing? I moved here from the South and was amazed at all the lifted grocey getters/mall cruisers w/ bald mud tires. Guess it never rains though, cause them there tires on pavement in some Atlanta summer showers would not be the bueno!

Oh yeah...I grew up in Alta Loma, and it is definitely the land of "Sorry 'bout yer penis" monster trucks with stuper-sized "So high I had to disconnect my front drive shaft" suspension lifts, tribal skull paint jobs, and neanderthal peckerwood-style hair/tattoo combos. Just listen for the s***ty thrash metal and open hedders and get the hell out of the way. Also watch out for legions of Kevin Federline wannabes in lowered Civics doing 120mph on your cul de sac.
