Oh man. That makes me physically hurt to think of that sweet truck going away and it wasn't mine. Nice work, did you do the resto yourself? Those Michelins are still fresh!
I did about 1/2 the work and the previous owner did the rest.. i kind of took over since he didn't have time for it anymore.
The tires were brand new. You can still buy them on Ebay. The'yre directional military tires and the government are phasing them out.. so they're pretty cheap.
Michelin XL's 39"
Been on the trail about a half dozen times and still find new/interesting stuff all the time
Most people take 3 days, although 2 days is fine if you ask me. I’ve done it twice in less than 24 hrs without co-drivers …80+ miles in the day and the rest 50+ at night and we didn’nt even rush, stopped several times...lunch, rest brakes, and whatnot and still setup camp before 11pm. You do have to hustle but its fun that way but I dunno you kind of like going slow... so 2 days or more fits you style better if you ask me.
Anyway, let me know…Mid spring (April) or Mid fall (less daylight) is about the best time to go and we can plan something fun for everyone.
That is the same book that I have. Looks to be very helpfull. Personally I would like to do it in 3 days at least for the first time to enjoy and look around a little. Look forward to doing it.
Tough choice - great folks in both groups, great great food in one group and an opportunity to bring another group along the path to cooking greatness.
Now we are talking! I didn't want to invite myself but after hearing how highly Brent speaks of your group I would really dig going on a run with you all. Sounds like I will learn a little about good trail food.
Yeah would be if the two calif groups could get together a couple times of year for United runs or something; I know I’m up in the Sierra's in the summer a few times and normally get together with some nocal folks I know anyway.
Another good one for both groups nearby is Calico that offers some great wheeling, historic sites, mines, caves, etc. One year we spend a few days there before running Mojave Rd from Afton Canyon and it was a fun week. If not another weekend sometime in the fall or spring is a good time to visit also. Of course on the east end; Laughlin Nevada is a fun destination wih some water sports, gambling, and other stuff to do. http://www.calicotown.com/
I could be wrong but I think that Ft. Irwin is located in the Mojave. A couple of shots from a recent run through the desert there last month. Watch for storms and flash floods. It got much worse than this after my camera quit working.

Looks like you are one of the lucky few who get to wheel on Uncle Sam's dime? The weather doesn't look like too much fun though. I understand it can get pretty ugly out there sometimes and when the water is falling the dry lake bed should NEVER be crossed. We will have to make sure to keep an eye on the weather whenever we go. Thanks for sharing.
Let's pick a date to do this run! I'm up for the three day option. When the weather is cooler.
Maybe the NORcal and SOCAL 80s can get together, That way the food is great and new friends can be made.
I like that idea. How about a NorCal/SoCal Mojave Rd run? How about mid October, say the weekend of the 14/15 or 21/22? Does Fri-Sun work for most? Time for all to plan and time for it to cool off out there.
Dave not trying to hijack your thread just get the ball you threw rolling.
