Time to treat the outside of mine again (now that the bugs are gone).

What product do you use?

I've been using a product by Chevron called shingle oil mixed with about 30% boiled linseed. Seems to work well, I just wonder if there is any other options.

Note: Spray application.

He doesn't seem to be on today's roster.

If I don't get any replies I'll send him a pm, thanks.

I would call Meeker Construction in Three Rivers, CA. Herb build some high end log cabins in the mountains and does remodels and restorations.

He is not listed in the dang local phone book otherwise I would post up his number.

I'll talk to one of his sons this weekend and get you some info if nobody else replies.

Thanks Dan.

A zillion options.
As with prepping your FJ40's body for the final coat, the way your logs will look both tomorrow and in 5 years depends hugely on how well you prep. That's the first 90% of the project, terrible to say.

But for the end product: this autumn, I stripped off from my log cabins (5 of them) the last of the polyurethane products, plus some Behr "Rawhide", and treated them with a log oil made by Superdeck. Very spendy; it looks GREAT. I am confident that the logs I was able properly to prepare are going to be looking fine even in ten years.
But some of my neighbors use a mixture of 30-50% diesel and 50-70% used motor oil. Does make the logs quite a bit darker...and I sure am not happy at the thought of resting a cigar on those logs, but such a mixture is virtually free.

Good gawd, talk about a toxic coctail. I'd bet the EPA doesn't recommend it.

Amazing. Depending on who I told I'd either be a genious or run out of town if I did the fuel/oil mix as an exterior finish....

I've been treating mine with sikkens but have been contemplating to switch to woodguard.

the sikkens is a little $$, but I figure the less I have times I have to coat it, the better I'd be.
