Any idea what these plastic petcock looking things are on my thermostat housing? Should I cap them? They look like a point of failure.

i think there called :

Bimetal Vacuum Switching Valve...it's basically a valve that
opens and closes at a set coolant temperature. When the engine warms up, it opens up and purges the
vapors stored in the charcoal canister into the intake, where they get burned in the combustion chamber.

They're temperature controlled vacuum switches - the coolant temps opens and closes the valves for the vacuum.

Mostly used for the emissions control stuff which appears to be since removed, although the charcoal canister is usually nice to keep.
Anyone have photos of a how this is hooked up properly? Any point in me putting the emissions control stuff back in? Also. What is it?

what year is your FJ## ?

You can easily connect up the charcoal can using the VCV and brown BVSV. That is how my 3FE is set up in my 40 to vent the fuel tank. The 2f I think also vented the carb float bowl to the charcoal can but that requires the outer vent control valve and emissions computer. No float bowl on the 3FE.
