I've use the std. insecticidal ear wash/wax remover. Is there any better options out there?

A mix of one part white wine vinegar and 2 parts rubbing alcohol is what I use to clean my guy's ears out after he swims. I dry the ears out directly after cleaing them with this solution. This is more of a maintenance/preventative thing than what to do once they become nasty and infected.

Thanks for the .02 guys. Hopefully I can head this off before it becomes a trip to Doc Ivan..

X2 but I just mix 1:1 white vinegar and rubbing alcohol

if the ears are just dirty and no smell, then the cleaning solutions work. If they are rank, go to your vet.

Our one retriever is prone to rank smelling ears / infections. So far the Remington stuff has solved the few episodes we have had. Now, he gets a cleaning once per week and they both get a dose any time go swimming or put their head under water. If they find a puddle that's about a foot or more deep they both put their head under water no matter how disgusting the water is - fool dogs.

Be careful; an ear infection, if severe or prolonged, can actually get into the skull bone and eventually kill a dog. Our last lab had chronic ear infections and always smelled. Our current lab (great girl, by the way) has not had one yet, even though she has long floppy ears.

Seemed to clear up, but just on the safe side he is going to the doc manana...

Ok, Doc said there might be a yeast infection going on. Sent me home with a bottle of Ket Flush and Gentiamicin drops. Report back in two weeks...At least now I know I am treating this right, sigh...
Thanks for the .02 everyone.

The vet gave us some ear cleansing solution for the hound dog....every once in awhile she gets a "Maggie" smell - usually her ears. This stuff clears it up. It is "Vet Solution" brand, so not sold in stores. I also have some all natural stuff made by a homeopath I might try next time.

We fought with this, tried all the organic and holistic cures, then the chemicals. Wife started running every day around three miles, takes the dog with her, and no more ear problems, no more messy stuff to put in his ears. He's a different dog all around, more healthy and robust and happy.

:hhmm: Couch ear..
