Hello my trail crew friends...

what, if any, are the Dusy Ershim plans for this Sept?
 
Can this trail be done "safely" without a rear locker in a long wheelbase rig? I have an 88 landcruiser with soon to be 35" tires and 3.5" lift.
 
Randy, just my .02 here.

The rig is still fairly new to you.

The lift, and the vehicle handling characteristics [which I GUARANTEE are going to be different] are going to be basically an unknown quantity.

The trail is VERY, VERY challenging.

There are guys in our club with LOTS and LOTS of trail experience who have a hard time on this trail.

There are several hillclimbs which are extremely difficult to do, even with lockers. In those instances, momentum usually gets added to the equation.

This trail also has a LOT of trees.

The combination of the momentum, the lift, and the bouncy-ness of aired down tires often ends up putting rigs into the side of a tree.

In other words, if this is your daily driver, I would wait and get to know the rig a bit more before I tried something like this.

I will keep that into consideration. You did notice I ended up finding my way into trouble already... I purchased 35's instead of going conservative with the 33's. :)

Randy... good job... it's better to get now than to buy the 33's and figure out later that you wanted 35's.
although.. I'll deny ever admiting to it...;) Mark is right. This trail is kinda rough, and while it is NOT impossible to get your wagon through... it would be better if you knew you rig a little better, and I dont think I'd try taking a wagon through with out a rear AND front locker... and maybe some kind of gears. unless you just wanna beat the crap out of your truck... and in that case .. bring it! ;)... I am kidding.

The plan as of now is 35's regeared with a locked rear. I think I'll pass on this one. I beat my truck through Coyote Lake and I don't want to do that again until I have the above done. It is my weekend off roader so body damage isn't a problem. My only concern would be rolling. If that happens then it gets chopped and tubed.

Chopping and tube work huh? I am more than willing to make some notes (dotted lines) on your rig and plasma cutting all that off. :D You would just have to do the rest. :D

I have procured a set of extra doors, those will be converted to half doors eventually. SOA takes priority.

I have made a mental note that you have a plasma cutter. :) Those are really fun. Who knows, maybe I'll go soft top with cage in a year or two if I don't roll it.

Workin on the truck is a healthy addiction.
