Any negatives to putting Anti seize on headbolts? I saw a thread that described a hydro?? condition that can occurr with oil and water in the bolt hole and was wondering whether this could occurr with antiseize. Does this Hydro?? condition occurr from expansion of the liquid (oil, water etc.)in the sealed chamber of the bolt hole as a result of engine heat or from compression during bolt tightening or something else?

Thanks in advance for any help. I've come so far on my 1st engine re-build and don't want to screw it up. My knees will be shaking when I turn that key (some day).

I would not use antiseize. Clean out the headbolt hole of all oil and water sludge. Make sure threads are good and get some permatex sealant for the threads. I think it is #3A or something like that. its a semi firm setting sealant that will help protect the threads from wayward coolant and seal any headbolts that enter the water jacket.

Thanks Cruiserbrett.

I was hoping you wouldn't say that due to the fact that I had already dropped the bolts in and hand tight them at the time I asked the question. So some bolts are into the water jacket??

Compressed air in the hole through the head should be enough to clean out the antiseize ? And will pwermatex work with a coating of antiseize in the hole?

Thanks again,

John
