Another nice rig

from what I can tell off of the international forum, that price is not uncommon. Shipping is what will kill ya. Unless you go in and get 3 or 4 and split the costs of shipping. I have heard over $2K to get one to the east coast of the US! Then dealing with the importation, etc.

I would be all over a fj45 if I had the $ to get it here. ought to be able to get a gas one for under $4K to your door.

Has anyone ever imported one from Australia?
Checking price, and import BS.

Again, check the international forum. Should not be an issue as long as its over 25 yrs old. AU has some rough trucks, they get used! Real used, from what I have been told.

Check in to it. I would say make friends with someone in AU that you can trust and let them help you locate one. Ebay in AU has to be like Ebay here, you never know what you are truly getting until you get there and see it in person. (Pictures never do it justice)

Like I said you ought to be able to get one to your door for about $4K US. But it isnt going to be easy as there is paperwork, waiting, etc.

Good luck and keep us posted on what you do.

The sadest thing is that most have seen life as a farm hack and when no longer needed they just park them beside the shed and leave them. Most of the ones i looked at getting were just like that. In fact my one was like that but i bought it off someone who had started the work on it.
I also know that some farmers will give ya the old Yotas just to get them off the property. Cause i had the option of carting one from a farm or spending $1000 and getting one with the worst rust taken care of.

I stumbled across an AUS used car website this past week and was amazed by the low cost of the cruisers, especially troopies, LWB and 44s.

If the cost of shipping is around $2.0K, then the best looking troopie would have still been around $5-6K once it hit the U.S. beach.

U.S. tariffs are the bitch. A 45 LWB is considered a commercial vehicle, so it is 25% taxed based on the purchasing price of the vehicle.

The troopie MAY be considered a passenger vehicle, in which case a 2.4% tariff is charged. However, consider the GMV of the vehicle, I doubt it would be considered passenger. One could argue it is a passenger vehicle if you get the one that has all of the seats for the 14 passengers.

Anyway, I'll try to find that website again. There was a troopie that really caught my eye.

Okay, I think I might have found the site.

Here is the rig that caught my attention:

http://carpoint.ninemsn.com.au/used-car/TOYOTA/LANDCRUISER/Victoria/1710394.aspx

$6,950 AUS at todays Bloomberg exchange is $5,293 USD.

Tariffs would either be $127 or $1,323.

If shipping was $2,000 from AUS to the nearest US port, then you'd be into it for just under $9,000.

Or hold out for a couple of years for this puppy to meet the 25-year exemption.

Anyway, enjoy the link as I day dream.

That is a nice cruiser.
I would be looking for a clean FJ45 truck, if I could find one.
One other thing, my insurance CO. said that they wouldn`t insure something imported like this.

I'm sure each insurance company is different.

I've had my 1978 FJ45 that I imported from Canada insured through both Allstate and USAA. The only thing is that I am stuck with a very low replacement value unless I go through an antique/unique adjustor.
