I’m very interested to see what Doug Demuro’s experience is with his Defender and he acknowledged TFL’s problems with theirs. I think if you bought a model they’ve been producing for at least a few years it wouldn’t be that far off typical Euro luxury reliability.

One would think that would be the case, but Land Rover's quality control is terrible, no matter how long they've been making a model. They just don't learn from their mistakes the way a company like Toyota does.

Gerry McGovern who designs these cars has been crystal clear that style and appearance is priority #1 over capability. So there’s really no surprise at the direction they have taken the Doscovery and Defender. It’s a shame.

I really wish that Land Rover would make quality control priority #1 or at least includ it on their list of priorities. Based on reviews, capability is still there. If they could get their act together on quality control, I would have given the new Defender serious consideration, though I do agree with the other poster who feels they blew it on the design, in regards to calling it a Defender, while Mercedes got the design of the new G wagon right.
