I really liked the cheapp center console threads and looked for a cooler for a while, then got to thinking I wanted to do something original. Had seen the ammo can center console, seen the Tuffy's, I wanted something tough and lockable so a toolbox came to mind. Found one of mine that worked, took out my body and fender tools and converted. Drilled out the rivets for the latches and handle, layed 1" foam from fabric store over the top, wrapped vinyl over the top, cut aluminum strips to length, screwed in with self tappers, found old "Toyota" emblem off a 40 and screwed in over the top for flair. It was quick and dirty, 30 minutes max.

Figure hand tools and essentials will go in the bottom (GPS, survival, batteries etc.) keep the top tray for bubble gum and corn nuts.

Clearance is a little tight but will work. I plan on welding on some cupholders/dish/cell phone spot to the front and adding a padlock.

(interior carpet is out, Rhino line awaits)

Way cool. Wish I'd seen this before I bought the tuffy.

yeah but the I have to admit the Tuffy is more secure and purpose built.

nice I love the toyota effect

I was hesitant on putting it on top, I think I might get some longer bolts to hold it on so it's less recessed in the pad.

Like the pad on top, did you make that or where was it purchased? I'm in the process of doing mine, used an ammo can and it's much more confortable than the original console.

Bought 1" foam and vinyl from fabric store. With the ammo can you'll have to mount it on a board first though. I wrapped the ends into the side and held with the aluminum strips.

Total cost for the whole deal was about $12.
