Guys,

The 45 runs great, drove it to DA (round trip ~40 miles) and very happy how well it ran. But...it stumbles off idle. Doesn't stall, just stumbles a bit, back of and get on the gas again as I ease the clutch and all is fine. Yet, I'd obviously like to get this cured.

This has the "non-US" carb which means little to me being such a novice to all this. I ponied up for the FSM from Coolcruisers and don't see any type of model/part number in the manual. I guess I'm asking what was asked in another thread, where is the ID for the carb if I wanted to order a rebuild kit.

Even though I'd guess its a vacuum situation since its appeared to have been "de-smogged", I'd like to get a rebuild kit, just in case. Here are some pics to help with the identification. It should be from a 85 FJ60 2F.

WTF does that say...

Can see the "9A25" stamped on the body...

Thanks in advance for the education and guidance...

that says aisan..........stock carb and hubs.

sorry thats all i can help with. I just told the parts guy i needed a carb rebuild kit for a 72 toyota land cruiser FJ55 1f motor and he handed me a box for under 20 bux. Still got a lot of the "extra" pieces in the kit if you need anything specific.

i didnt know it till later but mine had an ID tag that i posted in Mdemgglio's thread

From my experience the build kits are not too different inside. The carb itself is also not too different inside either. Have not been inside one that looks like that one but have been in too darn many and it just about looks like the 1982 one that i just built last week. Without all the extra stuff on it ofcourse.

Take all of this with a grain of salt because all that i have built were USA ones.

That's the part I'm trying to figure out, is it necessary to buy the REALLY expensive kit for the non-USA carb or just get the cheap one like Jason mentioned for Autozone.

In any event, I really want it just in case I can't chase down what I believe is a vacuum issue, causing the stumble off idle...

spray starter fluid and see if engine idles up, if so you are dealing with vacuum leak

Nice, I will try that...

I rebuilt an 84 fj 60 aisan in november and got the kit from carquest also did the manifold gasket and I know nothing but I'm learning
John

I'm used to rebuilding motorcycle carbs, these things have some many things to lose, I'll have to video myself doing it just so I can remember how it goes back together...

Jerry I also used the carquest rebuild kit when I did it on my 74' 40, really easy

The non-usa kits from Spector and Cool Cruisers is like $80 so I think I'll start with the $20 kit from Autozone...

Just be careful not to spray starter fluid on the exhaust manifold - it could flash. It almost sounds like the accelerator pump is shot on yours Jerry - that's the plunger on top of the carb that squirts fuel into the carb venturi when you press the gas pedal. It could also be a vac leak. You can try pulling off vac lines one at a time while it's idling and cover the hole with your finger - if the engine runs a little smoother you probably are on to the source of the leak. But if it otherwise runs fine and just stumbles on acceleration, I'd check the accelerator pump with the engine off to make sure it's squirting a good solid stream into the carb when you blip the throttle.

I have my carb apart and still see no numbers - must have had a tag on it like Jason mentioned and that's gone now. I had to order a kit off ebay because Pep Boys and CarQuest said they didn't carry a carb kit for a 71.

BTW - I bought a gallon can of Gunk carb/parts cleaner (I wanted to get the Berrymans like Diggity got but they didn't carry that brand) and it really doesn't seem to work that well. So if you're looking to dunk your carb, try to get the Berrymans brand - it looked like Diggity's carb came out way cleaner than mine did.

Crappy part is those Asain carbs won't fit inside the gallon bucket. Try squirting carb cleaner (a tad safer, but not quite as telling as starter fluid) first. That's what my truck was doing with an intake leak.

Thanks for the clarification. Good advise and help with troubleshooting...

That was what Greg was thinking, advising me to do as he did with his 55 and changing the intake like on his...

I always get the Aisan carbs to fit in them 1 gallon buckets no problem. Just have to take them apart before putting them in.

Take it apart, then I guess I'd be expected to put it back together...

I learned along time ago to take alot of pics.

I still do take pics even now. It also helps to show the person i built it for to see what all was in it and what all was done to it to get it right.
