I have wanted to take care of this problem but havn't had the time. And now since the weather is nice today I went out and took the lower dash off and had a look for myself. It seems I have an Audiovox alarm. The cover of the manual say's TDS (Theft Deterrent Sustem) and it says TDS on the remote. I know it isn't factory, and I wouldn't mess with it if it wasn't driving me nuts. I have one transmitter that worked when I got the truck in May but it got to the point it wasn't working most of the time. I thought it was the batteries so I replaced them. It worked great for like 3 weeks and now the led comes on but I get no responce from the alarm/truck.

So no biggie I have been just using the key in the door...but now...if I hit a slight bump...or my left foot taps the kickpanel (where the switch is located) I can hear the alarm clicking...the led flashes and the doors all unlock. The other day the doors 'unlocked' 10 times in a block. Locking the doors doesn't even over ride it. And 4 different times after hitting a bump ect, the alarm has started going off as I drive down the road. The first three times I just pulled over and shut off the engine and restarted and it was fine. This last time I pulled over, shut it off and just as I expected to happen the first 3 times, the alarm had disabled the starter. SO as the horn was going off I poped the hood and pulled the battery cable. Reconnecting the battery "reset" the alarm and I was able to start it back up and continue on my way.

I also just found under the dash that the alarm has a Shock dectector which was turned all the way to 0. I have the Audiovox owners manual but it is no help.

I would like to have remote keyless entry so would the easiest thing to do be completly take this piece o crap out and install a new aftermarket?

How would I deal with all the wires that have already been spliced to install this one? I had a thought, might they be mostly the same wires I needed to splice into to install a new one?

And finally, Beowulf (alarm expert), would you like me to scan my owners manual for you to put on your site?

I think this is one that Gulf Coast installed, but it isn't one of the transmitter built into the key. But the manual was printed just for Toyota. It references were the valet switch is located in the Camary, Celica, 4Runner, Previa, T-100, and Land Cruiser.

Thanks all!

David,

Yes please. I have another one that a forum member sent me to scan and add to the alarm documents but I haven't taken the time to scan it yet. (Have to use the office scanner after hours...)

If you don't have a specific model number or some way for people to identify the alarm then please send or post a picture so others can determine if they have the same alarm system.

hi,
was wondering where we are with this? i was searching forums for 'tds' to see if mine can be programmed differently? hate the thing, basically...

What do you mean programmed differently? Mine only has one button that does both, lock and unlock.

i mean program the 'system' differently, so that, for instance the doors don't auto-lock after getting in, etc...
the 'tds' system is a 3 button system w/ red, black and green buttons.

My TDS system in my 94 is a single button fob. My doors locking problem was a loose connecting in the kick panel. I replaced the connection and have had no problems at all. Mine are not supposed to auto lock and this loose connection was causing all my problems.

Maybe Beowulf (resident alarm expert) can chime in here about reprogramming yours.

John,

If you have the Audiovox Theft Deterrent System (TDS) installed in many Toyotas by Gulf States Toyota then the automatic door locking is a feature that cannot be disabled.

If you have the RS3000 alarm (Toyota USA) then it can be disabled.

If you have the SecuriKey+ (another Gulf States Toyota alarm) then it can be disabled.

unfort. i have the tds system, so that STUPID locking is with me to stay.... thanks anyway. is there anything that is customizable with that system? i have the manual, but it's very basic, as you prob. know. thanks.

John,
I only have a copy of the manual ( 5 or 6 pgs) so you know more than I do about that alarm. Sorry.

to resurrect...

back above, it was asked if there is any info on how to take the tds sytem out with its wiring splices, etc. before putting an after market in? searched but found none in forum. i would think there is much wiring there for horn, starter, lights, etc, etc..? any help? thanks.

wife locked out, etc...

bump... :)

after an unfortunate lock out in a thunderstorm, with the kids inside, i'm ready to take out the TDS system. anybody know if i can just pull the power wire when battery is unhooked, then hook back up battery. maybe the whole thing will be dead? hopefully? anybody? bueller?
