So figured I'd share.
Went to a local Goodwill today and found a Metabo, angle grinder on the shelf for $8.99. I hadn't heard of them before but a quick google search turned up positive results. Plugged it in at the store and no dice, it wouldnt turn on. But looking at the plug, the ground post had broken off. So I figured for $9 I'd take the gamble and see if I can get it working as a second grinder.

Got home and tossed a new plug on the cable and she spun right up!
Super stoked because I've been looking for a new(used) one for a little while now.

Anyways moral of the story is too keep an eye out at thrift stores for some great deals on random things.

Those are nice little grinders especially at $9, I bought three of them new so I don't have to change disks, grinders and wire wheels all the time. They run much cooler than my milwaukee and don't get near as heat soaked I've noticed.

Exactly. It sucks having to stop progress just to switch from grind disc to flap wheel etc.

And that's funny my other one is a Milwaukee too. I also have a rotozip which works well, but the discs are pricey and it's not really meant for heavy duty use.

Changing them back and forth does suck. I originally went to the pawn shops looking for grinders, never thought of a thrift store...Nice.

Pawn shops wanted $25-45 for blown out screamers. My buddy works at a Local tool house/ rental place and purchased them for me at his cost of $60 per grinder otherwise I don't think I could have swung all three at one. Which is about what a typical name brand from home depot or lowes costs.

I wish I could swing some of there cordless drills and drivers. There up there with Panasonic and Makita quality and price wise. My 18V milwaukee fuel cordless tools have been great for how many tools you get for the $$$ when you buy the kits. The most used impact driver has been rebuilt under warranty once but it sees T-40 log lags screws in my carpentry work often.

I have since started using my 3/8 drive impact gun i bought for wrenching on my cruisers and part outs for those duties after burning the regular impact driver up in less than a year.

Impact drill is definitely on my list to buy one day. But for now I'll just be 'slow'.

I had also been checking out CL and pawnshops for grinders with no real good deals. I really didn't wanna spend the $60-100 at HD etc so I held out for a good while. Then came across the tool section in the thrift store with all the dead cordless black n decker drills(they're like cancer, they're always around n never go away it seems) I thought hmm maybe I'll get lucky and find a grinder. And super score.

I did try to get it cheaper too since it didn't work but they said nope $9 is the price.

All 3 of the grinders in my toolbox came out of the garage. I have a 7" 15A Makita that the cord had been pulled loose from the switch, a 4.5" 10A DeWalt that needed a new cord, and a 4.5" 13A Milwaukee that needed new brushes. Gotta love our disposible attitude.

After finding that deal and a few others, I'm hooked searching thrift stores now. Snagged a Bosch orbital sander for $4 yesterday that's missing it's dust bag. Works fine.

These are great stories! :)

I have several, my last one was a freebie from craigslist. The nut was mangled but it works perfectly with a threaded center brush of course.
