I started writing a trip report for this most excellent adventure, but after it got to eight pages without being half done, I figured nobody would want to read that much! So, I'm just gonna post up some different stuff in random order for your amusement.

Saturday, Randy, Shane, Christie and I spent the afternoon shooting the sheit in Shane's trailer listening to stories about Christie's adventure in Cozemel and Randy's adventure with a certain high school coach, but I digress.

Randy's phone rings and it's Jim Reiss looking to see if Randy can find Jim an amplifier to play on for the gig that night. John D Hale said he had an extra guitar Jim could borrow, but no extra amp. So Randy makes a couple of phone calls to the locals and gets one lined up.

Five minutes later John D calls Randy to ask the same question. As soon as Shane realizes it's John D on the phone, he tells Randy to tell John D that they located the amp and John is supposed to go pick it up......................

From the deputy sheriff in Junction!

:lol::lol::lol:

Score one for Shane!:bounce:

Nice...

Wednesday, on the drive in, I stopped in El Paso to have dinner with Mike Perez [mep1811 here]. When I got to his place, he told me he needed to go down to the dealership to pick up his car, and asked if I would go with him and drive his landcruiser back. I said "sure" as I am always game to drive somebody else's rig, especially when it's a cool looking one like Mike's is.

So I get in the driver's seat at the dealership and the first thing I notice is that the steering wheel is not even tight on the steering column!:eek: Once I start driving it down the street, I can feel the 'drift' under the front end that is typical of something loose in the steering system.

So when we pull into the parking lot of the restaurant, I have Mike do a quick wiggle on the wheel; sure enough the center arm is wagging like a dog's tail. So after dinner, we go back to Mike's place and I pull off the steering center cap while Mike is getting the tool box off the front bumper. I discover that the @#$% that did his power steering conversion STRIPPED the nut that holds the wheel on.

I clean up the threads on the steering column and ask Mike if he has any replacement nuts. He does not.:frown: So I scan the memory banks for a few seconds, then suggest that he pull one of the stock tow hook bolts off so we can use the 12mm nut from it to hold the wheel. The tow hook bolt could be easily replaced with a 1/2" SAE one from a local hardware store before he left town the next day. Sure enough, the nut worked like a charm, and in short order, we had the steering center arm tightened up as well.

Good times.:)

So Randy tells us this incredible story [probably just another one of those typical Texas 'y'all ain't gonna believe this sheit! stories] about a certain gym teacher in high school that used to take a nap on the can in the boy's room. Then there was something about panty hose and a track and field starters gun fired at basically point blank range....

:eek::eek::eek:

I'll let Randy fill you in on the rest!

I am still in therapy from the beating that followed that little incident!

But it did scare the sh!t outta him. (:

The look on your face when you tell that story is PRICELESS! Heck, I'd drive to TX just to hear you tell that story again!:bounce:

And then there was Kristie's story about her harrowing nighttime escape from Cozamel after the scuba diving/doctor incident.:eek:

Friday morning I meet up with Hendog, one of my soul brothers that I connected with at SNT '09, who's traveled from GA to TX to wheel with Oscar, the man behind Pacol.

Oscar, Henry and I take off for the back 40, and start poking around some rockpile, but not before Oscar sinks his dual-lockered 40 in a bog I had just driven thru with open diffs.:lol::lol:

We start picking lines thru the rockpile, and realize that with no end in sight, we should at least have some provisions. We head back to camp, get an early lunch, and head back out again.

I had to take a strap from Oscar up the first ledge leading into the rockpile [because of the muddy tire entrance to it no doubt] but did just fine after that.
We no sooner made the ledge than some other vehicles showed up, only to beg off even trying the ledge.

We went in a bit deeper, and about 10 minutes later we were joined by Darius in his 80 [while Oscar was giving us a demonstration of how to drive off of a hi-lift jack! With an 80 in tow, Oscar and I started pulling some even crazier lines, not to be outdone. Course that sometimes happens out in the rocks!
