Am I the only person who doesn't like my 285 Revos???

I recently stepped up and put 285/75 Bridgestone Revos on my 2000 and, frankly, the is ride noticeably rougher than the Michelins I was running previously. I am a bit suprised as these tires have received such rave reviews on this forum and tirerack.com. My truck does seem to handle better but the ride is much, much rougher than I expected.

Is it because the 285s are Load Range D?

I run the tires at 35 PSI and have tried various pressures but no luck with improvement in ride quality.

I dont want to start a flame war but was just wondering if anyone else has had the same experience as me. Please keep in mind that I realize that the 285s are a off-road tire but despite this I still feel that ride quaility is lacking.

I only have about 50 miles and 4 days on mine, and I didn't get them aligned until yesterday.

Air them up to about 150psi like my tire shop did, drive on them for one day, then air down to 35 and you'll like them a lot better :D

They are rougher IMO, but not a lot. Regardless of user ratings on tirerack, in retrospect it is improbable that an AT will offer the ride of a passenger tire. The tire shop guy stated before he put them on they were going to be much stiffer "because they 8 plys instead of 4".....Take that for what it is worth considering the 150#s he put in them.

I have them on my 97 and love them...a lot stiffer than the LTX's that were on there but I expected that...even with expecting the increase in roughness I was still surprised a little..from reading on here I though there would be no difference between the LTX's and Revos...I would still choose them anyday though.

The Revos are an all terrain tire and will ride rougher than the LTX's. And Super Swampers will ride like rocks:) Your big heavy SUV needs those LT (light truck) D range tires!

Compared to the BFG AT's, I think the Revo's ride nicer.

People don't buy all terrain tires for ride quality. The good news is that if you bought them at a Bridgestone/Firestone store, they will swap them out for something more to your liking.

Otherwise, they are worth almost what you paid for them on the used market so you could sell them and go back to the LTX's.

I'm thinking about keeping my LTX's and buying a second set of rims/tires for off road only.

The LTX is really a good tire if you aren't into off-roading.

I believe the Michelins to be the softest SUV tire out there. Their on road noise (or lack of) just cannot be beat. Any other tire will be noisier that the LTX's in my opinion. Nittos fellows. That is the way to go.

I believe the REVOs have a 30-day test drive satisfaction guarantee. If you are within that time frame, then go ahead and switch them out at the place you bought them. If not, I'm sure a lot of people around here would buy them off you--at a substantial discount, of course.

The Revos ride better than the other AT tires. Comparing them to an LTX is an apples and oranges situation. You can't expect 8 plys to ride like 4 plys on the road. The flipside is that the Revo would do dramatically better off road. Find your own happy medium.

I switched from the Michelin LTX's to the Michelin Cross Terrain. On pavement, the ride is smoother and quieter and the grip is better on wet pavement. The cost was about the same. I did get my local Super Walmart store to match the "online price" for the Cross Terrain's which saved about $100.

I agree with everyone else. I like mine so much I made an avatar for them.
<------ See :)

You are not the only one.
I dont't really like my revo for different reason though. I want bigger size and I want more agressive tread pattern. 285/75R16 are just look too small on 100 series. They are actually a bit to soft for me. Revo are like jack of all trades but master of nothing. It work decent or even excellent for most people.

Thank ya'll for all of the information.

I wonder if the rough ride results from the 8 plys on the Load Range D tire instead of 4 plys of the stock 275....

i.e Even if i buy 285/75 Michelin LTX I might run up against the 8 ply problem again. The 285 LTXs are 8 ply. It might not be worthwhile to change to Michelin.

Is this the problem? What do you guys think????

I do some light offroading on my deer lease about once a month but I am in the city at all other times. Perhaps I should re-adjust my expectations. But, the 285s just look so good and I cant imagine going back to 275/70!!!!!

Hey, while I have you guys attention, does anyone know if Tirerack honors the Bridgestone 30 day return policy? The were NOT installed at a Firestone shop as well. Am I out of luck????

Cheers!

I think you are out of luck re: return policy.

Get used to it LOL. Look, they look better, handle better, and you're in TX, so you need big AT tires just to fit in!

The 8 ply LTX's will be firmer than the 4 ply but should ride nicer than the Revo's. Just theory here...

Now, a "P" tire would ride better, but they only offer P275 70r16.
