Hey Everyone,

Bought an ‘03 470 and have been slowly making it mine, including adding some 255/80r17, and is now time to lift. I’ve been planning on getting Dobs IMS all the way around as I think it’s a good middle of the road option that is serviceable. I don’t need top of the line as I’m not going to be getting too crazy in my daily driver. Mostly just exploring Colorado and working my way towards the San Juans etc. I come from moto so I’m now taking my family to places I like to ride/see.

All that said, I picked up a seemingly great deal on a set of rear Fox Factory Race rear suspension w remote resi that was a demo set for a local shop. They know it was under 3k miles on the set, but think it was closer to 1k miles. They’re a reputable shop and I share a mutual friend with the owner.

I’m now ready to buy the fronts and coil conversion and throw everything on. My question is, will it ride awkwardly with fox rear shocks and Dobs IMS on the front? I don’t need the Fox fronts and want to stay in budget. I don’t imagine the valving will align perfectly between the brands, but will the springs and everything else help offset that?

Also, anyone run these fox rears and have any issues/gripes?

I plan to lift the entire truck 2” and keep it stock otherwise. I’m not going out of control on the build, it’s my daily after all…I do plan on running helped bags for toting motorbikes around either on a hitch carrier or a trailer.

Thanks in advance.

if it were my rig, I'd flip the Fox Shocks on eBay and buy the matched set of the Dobinsons IMS shocks. I'm certainly not a suspension expert, but there seems to be benefit to buying a matched front-and-rear set.

I would also suggest looking up the typical rebuild interval for those Fox shocks. They could require fairly frequent and expensive service.

My notes could be wrong, but they say that FOX are linear and Dobinson are progressive

And a recent YouTube video lauded the FOX TRD shocks as being great out of the show room.

Thanks for the feedback. From what I’ve ready Fox does require more service of between 30-50k miles which feels excessive. I also don’t put a ton of miles on a car annually.

That being said, IMS doesn’t really provide a recommended rebuild interval that I can find. Pretty ambiguous…

Interesting but good point! I’m not sure how that would ride overall. I’ve heard good things about Fox, but to Red’s point they do require more service.

Thanks you two!
