Does anyone know if there are any producers of Aftermarket (high ouput) alternators for the FJ Cruiser? Mean Green is a company that I know of, and is apparently very good, but they don't seem to make them for the FJ Cruiser...so anybody know anyone else?

I remember reading somewhere that the OEM alternator is actually really high quality. I asked about doing this upgrade when I put in my dual battery and other electrical components, but was told it was not necessary. Let me know what you find out.

Uh..ours put outs maybe 130 max, possibly 150. It's not very powerful at all, and in fact it's kind of cheap since it has the annoyance of not being able to spin it (make it more powerful). If you have a sound system, lots of light, and so forth, you generally want to upgrade you're alternator. I'd prefer to have my voltage at 13.8-14.4 (14.4 is the ideal voltage for pretty much everything, but you won't get it unless you have a fantastic alternator, stock will never reach it)

Most amplifiers out there, only put out the power they claim, at a voltage of 14.4 volts. That means if you buy a 2000w amplifier, and you hook it up right now, not only are you're lights of course going to dim like crazy, but you're only going to be getting maybe 1400-1300w if even that to the amp. Besides, the stronger the voltage and the less the battery drain (as a higher-output alternator will be able to charge it up faster and keep is consistant) the less strain on your electrical system. On top of that, high output alternators also have better noise filters
