Alternator on 06 LX, what else to replace while in there? (1 Viewer)

I don’t know where Toyota gets their alternators remanufactured and I don’t know where the vendor on amazon remanufactures their alternators. Your guess is as good as mine.

Mine was reman by Denso. I got it off Amazon. The seller was Denso. It was $198 shipped no core.
One day I will take my original to a rebuild shop and have it rebuilt and waterproofed.
 
^^^ the -84 suffix in the part number means remanufactured. New Toyota is possible but more like $7-800.

Holy Moley.....This is exactly why I use this forum. I had no idea that the -84 was a reman. I had cross checked the part number on several sites, Toyota and Lexus and none that I saw ever said Reman. I did notice thought that the original part number didn't have the -84 suffix, but didn't really think much of it. So I just now searched for the non -84 part number and yep, expensive as frig! I can't actually find one available through any Toyota or Lexus dealer online, the only one I can find that's NIB is on ebay....and it's $1078!!!! I haven't ordered the alt yet because I saw this post earlier so here's a question....On pretty much every alternator thread in the 100 series section, everyone always says "Get OEM, get OEM, get OEM, don't get a reman" just like the post from way up above.....
Hope you are getting an OEM (not reman) alternator.
So my question is are all these people actually finding and shelling out the huge $$$ for a NIB OEM alternator, or are they buying from a dealership thinking that its new OEM, when in reality its actually a reman? I assume they are just using the Toyota Reman ones. Honestly, I wouldn't mind tracking down a NIB OEM alt and spending the big $$$ on it if I was pretty sure it was going to last a very long time, but my OEM alt is already taking a crap at 130k. That's not exactly reassuring. I'm probably putting way too much thought into this whole thing.....But I plan on keeping this truck a long time and hate doing repairs 2x.

Nearest I can figure is everyone thinks the one from the dealer is brand new, when it's a reman.
The basic rule of thumb is that whenever there is a model engine change parts are no longer made for the manufacture to use and once the remaining stock is solid off all thats left is reman or aftermarket.
So end 100 series and start 200 series, 100 series alternators stop being build for Toyota to install at the factory, remaining stock is sold off and the reman's are all that's available.
Any brand new OEM alternator is going to be north of $600.

Order the one off Amazon, no core, rebuild yours at your leisure, or sell it for a core. There are places and people that buy them.
I bought a junk set of calipers to use as a core trade so I could still drive while my new calipers were on order from AutoZone for my Land Rover otherwise I had to pay for the caliper and the core in order for them to be ordered, core was just as much as the caliper and I needed all four.
 
I bought the amazon alt linked up higher in aug 2015 for $200. The first one they sent wasn't the right model but the second was.
