So I think my alternator has died after it left me stranded last night in Gardendale. Before I replace it though I wanted to ask are there any other issues that I am unaware of (regarding the Land Cruiser not my own) that might cause a charging issue?

Fusible linka?

too cheap not to replace as well.

I'd say, if a new battery got you home, then have your alternator tested... You get the "christmas lights" on your dash?

Off to search "Christmas Lights" but no not that I'm aware of. I was going to pull the alternator tonight to get it tested but I didn't know if there was anywhere else I might be having trouble.

I thought about the fusible links but haven't checked them yet.

If you didn't get any lights on your dash... it prolly ain;t your alternator...
think it's the voltage light, the brake light, something else...

No lights that I remember but also no voltage except for whatever the battery had. After I got it home last night I noticed the belt was loose and tightened it hoping that was the issue and still no charging. I have noticed for the last couple of months that the voltage meter would move depending on the idle and when I would turn on my blinkers or wipers jump in time with the rhythm.

mine was doing that and every once in a while the voltage light would come on. It was the fusible link.

When the alternator went out in the 92 the dash lit up like a christmas tree.

I'll check those when I get home from work after I have chauffeur pick me up. I am hoping it's something simple like the fusible links. Not that the alternator is hard but I have stubby little hands and things are hard to reach.

not the alternator, it is dead easy. Especially if you go ahead and toss the air pump at the same time.

Yeah but if I toss the air pump aren't there other things to by pass and close off? Not that the thought hasn't crossed my mind.

onliest place to get them fusible links is a yota parts counter... I think... comes as a set already together. You can actually bypass them to "see" if it's the actual problem.... just jumper across them. But i wouldn't run with the jumpered wires...

Or real easy to check with a multimeter.

Well I haven't added a multimeter to box of tools yet so I went ahead and pulled the alternator and am going to get it tested. Came out easy once I removed the air pump. Now I wish I was ready to desmog because nows as good a time as any.

Agree. pulling the pump is actually the biggest job and obtaining the belt.... Just cap the air rail...
You're almost there! just do it.

So the alternator failed it's test and I replaced it with the Autozone brand because I need my truck to run. I will replace OEM when this one fails but I couldn't wait for one to get here.

I am going to pull the air pump in the not to distant future now that I know it's not necessary.

Oh and my LC has a theme song for anyone that wants to YouTube Big Fat Bitch by Zac Brown.
