Hi, I'm looking for a source for an alternator for my 10/69 FJ40 part #27020-60032. Mine recently failed and local shop says they can't rebuild it. When I search for it online I'm coming up with places that sell forklift parts. Not sure if they'll work and really need the original alternator since I have a power steering pump mounted directly above it and they're fairly close in there. Thanks for any assistance.

Pretty sure I have one:

The internet. Bearings and diodes usually have numbers that you can cross reference. I'm sure there is some sort of catalog for carbon brushes. Before I left town to go to the university 300 miles Dad and I took apart the starter and alternator to inspect/service them . I had to drill off the head of one of the alternator threw bolt to get it apart. The nice local toyota parts guy gave me the bolt out of one of the cores they had.

I would just buy the reman unit and then take your dead one apart to see what it needs. Find a good youtube vid. The factory manual and even Haynes has info.

BTW I did mine in back 86 and its still there and still working. I got a spare from RockAuto for like $20 several years back. But if the OEM goes then I putting a one wire 120A unit for that same $130.

After you install a "new" one its used parts. There are lots horror stories about crappy reman parts from the discount auto places, I figure I do better work than some minimum skill/wage person in a sweat shop than has to meat quota or they sell one of their kidneys.

I’m not in the shop at the moment, but my website says I have rebuilt ones for $95 exchange.
My rebuilder is a couple of years older than me and also runs a one man shop. He managed a large production rebuilding outfit before he went solo about 30 years ago.

Hi AJF ,

i specialize in only NOS & all New and New old stock only 1997- older Land Cruiser Genuine NipponDenso Japan Spec. Parts Alternators .....

some of currently available and ready to ship out right away units are / were complete as in new in a box Land Cruiser application ones

many of my units are hand assembled in-house by me personally , using any combination of NOS and or NEW OEM TOYOTA and also Genuine NipponDenso Parts ,

i only use made in japan spec parts , no exceptions ever .....

All my New / Nos Alternators come in a kit form kit as in All the mounting hardwars and electrical pluhs and rubber boots etc. this ensure good reliable current flow the moment you turn your key to the START position ....

All my units include a new OEM DENSO / NipponDenso OEM TOYOTA Voltage Regulator , this is a Mandatory part you agree to install correctly before you install the alternator ...........

WHY is it a mandatory part you must install ?

it's simple : the new voltage regulator matches your new / nos Alternator factory fit form and function , it ensures my work now in your engine bay continues to provide reliable service for you and should and can expect ...

using a old one .
aftermarket CHAIRMAN MOE Spec. china crap rock auto part like this is ...............well a poor choice i do not subscribe to for all the reasons you may think possible .......

if you still are a bit un-clear , think of it this way , you invest in a new pair of top-Shelf KEEN Full Leather work shoes , would you not also install new OEM KEEN laces too ? or use your old ones , or a pair from you local
7-11 HELP Isle ?

i do not joke around about important related on-topic topics like this ...

- old or china voltage regulators can and do cause a new / nos alternator to FULL FIELD from the on-set and this will leed to a quick and certian Doom for your nice little sparky
DENSO .....

- my approach here may seem a bit outside the Box perhaps , but this is what you should expect and nothing less , no matter where you wind up sourcing your needed
10/69 27020-

- but my routine and last step-by-step no matter what form of new / and or NOS Vintage TOYOTA Alternators i offer and send folks , are correct by the FSM for your 10/69 FJ40 ....

- below is why i can stand behind my fact-basted information above .......

no exceptions ever on every single alternator on my shelves that is Yellow Tagged and ready to box up carefully with all the recoded details of its future service life ...

thanks

If you are still looking i have one sitting right next to me for sale because I am not using it.

oh kool ......:D

@AJFJ40 would love to see technical photos of it for sure ..

thanks
I know my 1 F alternator worked but I went to a GM 1 wire self excited alt. and I have a 2F alt that came with my motor that is an unknown. But if there is no market for them I might just take them to scrap with my avalon dead alt.
