Alternatives to factory running boards

I just spoke with All Pro earlier today.
Also spoke with my dealer, my FJ will be here the middle of June, but without the rock rails, as they told me they are out for now port side.
I then called up All Pro, and they should have some in 3 weeks.
I also stated that it would be best if they bolt onto the factory holes to make it truly a bolt on item, and that is their plan.
I will go for them if that is the case, and get them powder coated locally.

rock rails
i just received my fj three days ago that came with running boards, told salesman to find me customer to trade for rails. it took him one day and i made the swap. i can tell you from doing the trade myself they are very heavy and stout. i also saw them in action with the fj trail team.

check out bentup.com. They make some nice sliders that also act as a step.

i ordered in the factory rock rails installed myself they are a good add-on they are heavy and strong and will take a beating so your fj doesent. imo.

Yes the Factory rails work great..for protection. But don't fool yourself...they are not steps. They stick out just far enough to make you THINK you could step on them , but you can't get decent footing and could possibly hurt youself trying.
I love the rails on mine...very stout and will not only protect on the trail, but also from side impact collisions with lower cars (working with the side curtain airbags I bet it is a damn safe combo). However...my wife wanted the running boards and I told her that the rails would work as steps....(i actually knew they wouldn't, but the rails are much cooler).
Now I am in trouble...........again.
