Alternative to FSM PDF's found?

this just dawned on me and might be out of line. but:

I've noticed that the FSM pdfs that are circulating are pretty much just scans of the pages and are non searchable and such (you can't search for words that are just pictures).

I'd be willing to sit and scan an FSM and then use my OCR software (optical character recognition) to make the thing searchable. That way, you can type in what you are looking for and it will show you what page to go to... I am a newbie and am constantly 'flipping' through these pages looking for what i need to see and i think this would benefit lots of folks, even those with physical copies. I COULD print out the pdf that i have and rescan with OCR but it'd degrade the copy really bad to scan it twice.

again, this might be out of line but I'm just trying to add to the community and make life a little easier.

That would be nice to be able to search for words. That is nice of you to make the offer which would take some time.

The FSM seem to be pretty organized I don't have to much trouble finding things but if it helps you then go for it. I am sure a lot of people will find it helpful.

i think if you don't know what the helle you are looking for like me most of the time it might help. simply doing a search for PCV valve in my case would help.

i am doing it right now so we'll see how that goes.

I downloaded a 1985 4runner FSM and a 1984 FJ60 FSM (I think for Body and Chassis) and both of them have a pretty good browse feature in the PDF, so I figure that whoever scanned them in did a pretty good job. You can tell it was too, some of the pages are ever so slightly crooked. I downloaded them from a link in this forum somewhere.

wow the one that i keep getting directed to is a1980 2F Engine FSM that is just images. maybe i am just not in possession of the right manuals. The chassis manual, emissions manual, and maintenance manuals i have are all just 'pictures' of the pages and not searchable.

On your motor itself you will find it on the passenger side next or close to the block.........pull it straight up out of the piece that holds it in or grommet like it is called on my 62

thanks dude - do you mean page 3-5? Mine goes by chapter then by page or something like that. i've found what i think i need in the files i have but was thinking for the future and making cross referencing easier

Yeah if you get searchable electronic versions let me know, I'd be interested.

did you ever do this? I need a body and chassis fsm 36262e

thx
