already done the searches in the thread and found nothing for cruiser mechanic in NW florida... i am in tallahassee and there are several 60's and 62's around here... and i know that there is at least one guy from tallahassee here... besides the dealer does anyone know of a truly good LC mechanic around tallahassee... most of the guys shops i have gone by pull out the chilton's book or SOR catalog and profess to work on a lot of old cruisers.

if there is a reply our beloved moderator can move it to the right area.

thanx in advance.

maybe more than one would like to have a cruiser repair session

if there are any other ppl in the tallahassee - north florida area with 60's; maybe we could get together on a weekend and do a couple of things to more than one car... i have a shop with either covered roof (over where the suburban is stored) or the nice shade tree in the fenced back yard with all my tools there.

couple of things i have in mind for mine: find vacuum leak and replace at least the exhaust manifold gasket, at some point install a rebuilt carb, put the air shocks on i have rattling around in the back, install longer shackles and bushings, pressure wash entire underneath of car (have the pressure washer), couple of small cosmetics, install vacuum gauge on dash, etc. the list is never ending but since there are no payments to be made to the bank they are all warranted and reasonable.

i have several things in mind to do and a couple would really benefit from some additional hands. not trying to do anything on the cruiser right now that could not be done in one day since old blue is my daily driver. all of the shops that i talk to want me to leave it say on next tuesday or thursday and they will get to it when they can... that will force me to either resurrect the old suburban or the fj80 i am trying to sell.

chime in.

Hey srplus, I'm in Tally also (you and I exchanged posts on some Yak bars a couple of weeks ago). I'd be up for a meeting to share info/ideas/labor. I'll have to admit my know-how is a step above novice at best, but I'm willing to spend the time and bust a few knuckles to get my Crusher running better and learn a few things along the way.

Your to-do list starts off like mine...vacuum and exhaust manifold issues, carb issues, suspension issues...

I've recently had my clutch rebuilt by Nationwide Transmission on Capital Circle--highly recommended. No more slipping; it drives like a different Crusier now.

Other than that, I can't honestly recommend anyone in the area.

I"m in Tally. Got a '78 FJ40. Looking for a good mechanic also. I have used Parkway Car Care (Apalachee Parkway just before Mom & Dads restaurant) extensively for other newer model trucks & cars I have owned. I have always been very satisfied with their level of service. I just called the owner and he said they have seen a few old ones, but not a lot. I will probably take mine out there to get a second opinion on a mainfold leak, clutch issue, and a few other things.

i have used... but, let's...

on my previous fj62 i used warren sutton of import authority on west tharpe... they really paid close attention to detail and adjusted valves and complete tune and a thorough going over of the 62... i would recommend him for anything major. only problem is that he is way over there and is very busy; gotta leave the car for a couple of days (more if special order parts are needed)... and they charge extra if you watch (joking there, but most shops do not want the owners around when they are working on the cars).

this time i wanted to get a few of the things done that were causing some of the smaller problems and a few of the things that were more geared toward upgrades, do all the diagnostics of what was needed for complete fix and have the parts already here, for when a shop or i completed the fixes needed... way back in the old days i used to adjust my own valves and do frame offs, but that kind of stuff is not for the faint of heart or the not completely committed and is very hard to do all by yourself. (how's that for a run on sentence? LOL)

so if you guys (and others) want to get together send me an email to the link in my address and i will try to coordinate it... who knows, i may have laying around what you need or versa, visa.

I'm not much of a fan of having a garage work on my cruiser. Today I tore most of the 2f apart and working on getting back together...Everything on the asembly will be replaced, all rubber hoses and vac lines. I hope to finish up tomorrow, if I dont run into any snags.

I a trip planned in a few days up to Tellico for GSMTR..somtime after I am free to get together for a wrenchin party....kinda of a far drive though.
