I know this is a very basic rule - drive in a lower gear when driving downhill and use less brakes.

Guess I did not realize this today while driving downhill on a very curvy road and it was very steep. I was lucky that the road ended in about 2 miles, as i stopped at the bottom I realized my braking power was 80% gone and it was all smoke coming out of my front pads. I barely stopped with a little bit of help from the parking brakes.

FYI - I used the OEM toyota pads and I know they are NOT ceramic. One of the reason they got smoked I think.

Regardless - I am still shaken, needless to say what could have happened!!!

Just wanted to let everyone know - use the lower L-2 gears when driving downhill, especially if it is too steep down.

Now, coming back - I am planning to replace all 4 oem pads with the ceremic ones. Would appreciate some advice, on the best ones I can buy. Rotors I will probably pick OEM.

As a general rule, I always try to limit braking to no longer than 4 - 6 seconds at a time in situations that require significant amounts of braking. If I notice the situation is causing me to approach his threshold, I start limiting my speed at the beginning of descents to ensure I can use the lowest gear possible.
