Gang,
As I have chased a few electro-wizardry issues, I keep coming back to the aftermarket alarm and funky installation and wires tapped in the cabin. I will like to remove the alarm and do it right so I don't mess up the truck. What I am asking is:
  • Do you know a reputable alarm installer that I could use for this job?
  • Any of you know how to do this and have the time? I am willing to pay for this gig regardless.
Welcome any thoughts on this task. I was going to do this today, removed the driver side kick panel and saw all the single wires tapping into the harness, I kept my paws off as I don't know what else could be connected or how it should look stock without alarm.

I used a Norton's franchise in Charleston to install a Viper system in my F350, and they installed a bunch of GPS systems (20+) for me also. There is prbably an ignition kill section that would be left OPEN if you just remove everything. A btter car audio shop should be able to get you set up right.

After market alarms cause way more hassle than they are worth. I agree that taking it to a good alarm guy to have it totally removed is a good idea.

My cousin's husband has a company that install all the aftermarket gadgets for a couple of local car dealers, including toyota. I will ask him. The good thing is that he goes to your home.

Why do you need to go to an alarm company to have it removed?

We properly removed the aftermarket alarm from @ontherxs 's truck, and while it took some time, it wasn't difficult. Granted, it was a 60, not an FZJ80, but the concepts are the same.

1. Find the alarm's brain
2. Trace all the wires that connect to the brain
3. Remove the brain wires and repair the factory harness where the splices were made by the original installer

Some alarms on newer vehicles tie into many other functions and are set up to disable the vehicle if the alarm system is tampered with

Rafael, that sounds great.

Johnny, I am fearless about trying stuff, would give it a shot if I had time and someone knowledgeable with me. But have read so many other threads of alarms getting disconnected and then the truck wont' start... I can trace where all the wires go, but couldn't tell what are the original plugs as there are sometimes more than one unplugged harness hanging out.

The alarm "brain" has one main plug, that is not connected from when I got it. But also there are other wires and plugs and a relay coming out of it, not sure what they do. Some connections could be screwing up the ABS too, as well as my interior lights. Looks like porkchop job, wires tapping all kinds of sheet.

I can tell you that out of all the (slur of choice here) engineered crap I find on the trucks that roll through the shop, electrical hacks are by far the worst. Toyota has enough "ghosts in the machine" on their own, previous owner hacks just make it worse. I've put new harnesses in Jeeps and Austin Healys because it was faster and cheaper than trying to sort out the mess under the hood and dash.

Update on this. Today I had Gregory Batista from Beyond Audio come out and SAFELY remove the alarm and all related components. It was not powered, but I feel better not having that half-assed alarm hanging and banging under dash.

Beyond Audio specialize in Toyotas, alarms, audio systems, electronics. Great guy and highly recommend him. Gbatista@beyondaudiopro.com, 704-312-0012

Thanks for the lead. I'm looking at replacing the stereo system in my wife's 100 and did not feel confident about going to the local audio installers.
I still might do this myself with some help but I plan on giving Gregory a call first.
