I’ve ran into a potential problem. Living in Japan is never dull. I purchased a QuickPitch Trax Table and absolutely love it. However, I attached it to my Troopy directly and was told that it may not pass inspection next September. I need to be able to remove the table and I think this looks like it would be pretty easy and quick.

I’m trying to find this cargo rail track (semi-circular), specifically in BLACK. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks for the heads up. I'll see if they have any that are semi-circular.

Don’t. Your truck may not pass inspection, but to are able to do a title mod to make it legal... are you a 400 series or 100 series plate?

Add rubber covers for those L-tracks to be a little less conspicuous.

Too late, I already drilled the damn holes for the table. I have a 130 plate. I can remove the table but it is a real pain in the ass to do so. That's why I was thinking of cargo rail, just like in the photo. It has been said that living in Japan is like living in a straight jacket. And I completely agree!

My roommate from Japan... said is often better to be a tourist than a Japanese citizen. They cut you all kinds of breaks as a tourist but no slack and high expectations as a Japanese person.

Hoser, I'd say your Japanese roommate is pretty much spot on. I've been here for 20 years and I'm ready to leave...but stuck for the time being (job). Tired of the socialism and all that it entails.

Bling173rd, I don't understand your question. What does "IT" refer to?

Bing173rd,

Do you have a Troopy? If so, where did you purchase it from?

I purchased the Trax Table from South Africa. You can forget trying to purchasing anything from Australia. I've tried numerous items and they just don't seem to be interested in shipping anything overseas. However, I was finally able to convince Drifta to sell me a table; paid for it a couple of months ago and still have not received it.

I have had no issues with ordering parts from Australia to Japan yet. Most stuff has been on the smaller side but it gets here quick and no damage to the boxes which is much different than the stuff I get sent from the states.

I got one, an older 75 series. I bought through a shop down in Tosu. Pretty rough shape but it gives me something to play with over here.

Then perhaps you should try ordering a Trax Table from QuickPitch. Maybe easier than South Africa.

I didn't want to deal with anything that I may have to do any heavy maintenance on since I live in a house that doesn't have a place to park a car. That and the fact that I wanted the V8 diesel. Actually, I have never seen an older Troopy for sale anywhere. I started searching using furigana and finally found a dealer is Sagamihara that imports from Dubai and the US.

There are a couple of places that import them as well as parts. Have you talked with Dave at Japan 4X4 he is pretty knowledgable on working with these things over here. But if I could have got a newer one and brought it back I would have, that 25 year rule is rough.

I completely forgot about Japan 4x4. Thanks for reminding me.

Yeah, that 25 year rule is silly to say the least. We're planning to ship it to Mexico and then travel the Americas in the next few years, if everything goes as planned. I've been told that I need to put the truck in my wife's name otherwise I may have trouble getting it into the US in the future. So that's another thing that we need to do.

I just heard back from my dealer and he said that cargo rail is better, but is still not sure if it would pass shaken. I was very clear with what I planned to do with it once it was imported. I went over it time and time again, just to make sure that I understood and my wife did the same. I'm now a bit pissed. I put gullwings on the sides and boxes covered in marine carpet and was told last Saturday that I would have to remove everything from the cargo space. I made everything easily removable, but it's still a hassle. He suggested that I try Self-Shaken so that's what we are planning to do next Fall.

Living in Japan is really starting to try my patience. But it took 20 years to get to this point.

They are pretty strict over here with their inspections. I plan to do a full build out but going to wait till its in the states. I'm just working to get it mechanically sound and the replace all the parts the old worn out stuff I can. Luckily, parts and what not are cheaper and using www.monotaro.com I get free shipping so all the little things that are OEM I am trying to get done here.

I knew they were strict and like I said, if I had clearly known beforehand, I would not have imported my truck. We were planning to stay here quite a bit longer, but circumstances have changed.

Are you happy with the stock motor? In all of the reviews that I have seen or read, the engine is greatly underpowered once any significant weight has been added.

That sounds like a great idea on your build. I use Monotaro all of the time, and have tried to order parts for my truck. The last time I tried, it took 4 months before they finally cancelled my order. That's why I decided to hit up my dealer. I may try one more time, just to see if it had anything to do the particular part that I needed.

I have only had minor issues with parts from them, usually something weird or small that gets pushed back but overall I'm very happy with them. No shipping makes the wait here and there worth it.

So far its fine but we will see once the build gets going. But also, it is a big box so I don't expect to break any speed records. I think the point is with trucks like this is to enjoy the ride. Plus, if I was worried about being fast I would have kept my Sprinter van for more on the road trips.

We tend to head up into the mountains, like the Nikko area and I have to do a lot of down shifting in order to make it up the steep roads here. I’m often in 2nd gear even with that big V8. On regular roads it’s easy going. I don’t drive fast, but traveling anywhere on regular roads it takes forever to go camping. I drove down to the dealer last Saturday. Left the house at 7:20 and didn’t get back home until almost 4:00. Out of all the driving I only spent 30 minutes at the dealer. If we want to go camping, we have to leave the house at 4:30 or 5:00 in the morning.

I need some more parts to complete the dash change from brown to gray, so I‘ll try Monotaro and see if I can the parts in a timely manner.

If you are interested in a Trax Table, etc., try QuickPitch USA. I think Hein may be able to help you out.

As for the semi-circular cargo rail, I have not been able to find anyone that will ship to Japan.
