Gday guys,
As per my recent thread on installing a snorkel, I am wondering what else needs to be done to waterproof the Airbox? Do I seal up the 'bowl' attached to the base of the Airbox, or is this a bad idea for some reason? Is this the only area I need to look at - being confident that the snorkel intake - Airbox is all good? Obviously diff / gearbox breathers / exhaust extension etc are all other issues (and it is on my 12ht, so no dizzy to worry about....)
Thanks heaps - hopefully some 4x4 photos to come over the next few days that will make the precautions worthwhile!!

I hope you don't mean this bowl? pictures?

No, not that one (but that pic did help last week with my snorkel install!). The one at the bottom of the filter housing that is held one with a couple of clips - will take pics tomorrow! Thanks!

My approach is to make sure all the seals are good. I give all the rubber a good clean and smear it with rubber grease each service.

With the "pot" that hangs below the air filter box: I make sure the rubber flap is clean, close fitting, still elastic and I don't put any grease on it. It is the only way that water, which can come in the intake from rain and condensation, can escape. It's very effective at that job. Every day on big trips I empty it out - I've found all sorts of bugs and stuff in it.

If you do a water crossing the induction vacuum keeps it closed up.

Thanks Ironbark - pretty much what I wanted to hear!! Bloody rain hasn't stopped here, so should be plenty of water where we are heading over the next few days!! Hopefully tracks aren't closed though!!

Assume you're also water-proofing electrical stuff, if you intend to go under water with your rig.. also, some raised axle breathers? first time I crossed a river with my rig I got lights half full of water.. expensive fun..
edit: I see you're going to do breathers, what about starter, clutch cover, door seals

Thanks rat,
That is exactly why I asked the question - to see what I have overlooked!
Hopefully it won't be that deep - but just in case!!

Something to consider.....if it's going to be "that" deep, drive around? May be less hassles and could prove to be more fun testing the rig's limits in other ways.
