Factory is best. Years ago very little thought was put into air intakes, and this was why you could bolt a new intake onto a Civic and pick up a few horsepower. In recent years engineers are doing everything they can to improve engine efficiency in order to meet emission standards, and this includes a well engineered air intake. Factory intakes on most Toyota's for the past 20 years draw in cold air from the fenderwell. I do not believe it is possible to improve this design. Another thing to consider is the filter design. Factory filters are very good for air filtration. Every vehicle I have ever seen that was driven regularly on dirt roads and had a K&N or similar filter had a large amount of dirt in the intake.
