Did a partial AHC removal a couple weeks ago to get some OME on. It went well. I capped the system at the globe's with some caps that I got from Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters, then pulled the big hardlines, shocks, and springs as described in the recent threads on AHC removal. A 12 mm ratchet spanner does make it all possible. I also unplugged the AHC computer and pulled the AHC relay under the hood--no lights, no codes, everything works (except the AHC). Buttons replaced with a factory cubby hole.

Today I pulled the globe's, the big tank on the DS, the manifold thingy on the DS, most of the remaining hardline, and most of the wire harness. Again, the 12 mm ratchet spanner is the magic tool here.

Questions:

1. Is the wire harness self-contained? Can I pull and cut without affecting other systems? It's hard to track the harness back on top of the shocks.

2. Is the rear sensor the object attached to the rear upper link? Does this affect other systems, or can I $hitcan it? It looks analogous to the LSPV on an 80 series.

I'm considering removing AHC myself and installing a OME kit. You wouldn't happen to know of a step-by-step instructions, preferably with pictures, would you? I've searched a little but can't find one. Thanks!

AHC wiring may be combined in harnesses that carry wiring for other stuff...I don't see the need for pulling or cutting it...

Rear sensor affects only the AHC...you could can it without problems.

The AHC system is separate from everything else...no step-by-step info I've seen, nor video.

It should be simple...

Have your replacement torsion bars, rear springs, and shocks available.

Drain the AHC system...essentially, use the bleeder screws on the accumulator and on the mounting bases of the 4 globes. I use a 100cc syringe and plastic tubing to help completely drain the tank (farm or tack store for the syringe...cheap). A Mighty-Vac or similar brake bleeder will help getting fluid out of the parts with bleed screws.

Remove major components...accumulator, globes, and pump/tank assembly.

Remove AHC metal tubing.

Install new suspension bars, springs, and shocks.

Remove interior switches and replace with oem change holder.

Good luck...it'll be somewhat messy.

So how it is with OME? Better than AHC?
It depends on what you're doing with the truck. To me, it's more of an apples v. oranges question.

I'm just ride it everywhere. We got a lot of crappy snowy roads here. ^)
My AHC bugging me once in a while, so i'm looking for some replacement.
I wanna know how does the truck go on normal/classic suspension.

Just like a Land Cruiser without AHC goes.

AHC, in itself, is not detrimental in snow, as traction control is present with or without AHC.

We get snow and ice on the roads here too...imo an LX or a Land Cruiser is the best vehicle I've ever driven in the winter.

How is your AHC bugging you?

Rear sensor gives an error ussually when the temp jump fast to -30-35 C.
And i think wires are pretty old already and i guess sometimes its a cause for error when its moist.
