Hi all, I'm needing to replace the AHC pump in my 2008 LX.

My Lexus dealer is quoting a massive number (more than $5k just for the part) for this job here in Canada, and I can find the part for almost 5 times less money here:

It appears these are genuine toyota parts out of Japan. HOWEVER, the part number they have on their website: 48910-60032 is ONE NUMBER off the part number that Lexus is recommending: 48910-60033.

The guy at the parts counter there said that this could perhaps be just an updated part number OR it could actually be they changed the part.

There's a massive price difference here... So big that it raises concerns whether or not these are oe factory parts. Does anyone know here? I know there's a few from this forum that have used that site and been totally happy, so that's a start.

Does anyone here know or can confirm if the part itself was updated? Or did Toyota just update the part number? I can't imagine I should bite the bullet and pay 5x more just to ease my mind?

It was just superseded. Partsouq lists 0030, 0031, and 0032 as part numbers for the pump. I have ordered all kinds of AHC stuff from JDMplanet. It’s all legit.

Interesting, I wonder why they do this? I see what you are saying... I wonder if the part is different, or perhaps just internal cataloguing purposes?

Probably both. @OGBeno might be able to shed some light.

When the last number of a ten-digit Toyota part number changes, it generally indicates the following:

1. Supplier change for procurement
2. Engineering change to part
3. Material change to part
4. Blueprint change to part design
5. Application change for part

Thanks for this info!

I wonder if the changes had to do with any internal issues they had with the original, or if anyone that bought those had issues prompting the change. Just natural questions i have... That being said, there's a $4k (cdn) difference between the two. I think I'll take my chances. :)

Thanks for the input!

The price difference is mostly because of greedy dealerships even with same part numbers.
For example the actuator for my rear diff lock. Toyota dealer here in Germany -> 980€. Short look at Partsouq (Saudi Arabia) was 198€ +36€ shipping with DHL (three days…) and like 20€ in import taxes.
So a huuge difference for exactly one to one the same part.

It actually has very little to do with greed and has much more to do with currency exchange rates, demand for Toyota service parts in different geographic regions, supply associated with parts actually in export depots, manufacture rates of certain parts by Toyota suppliers, cost of tariffs on different parts composites, and distributor agreements for sale pricing of parts between Toyota and distributors of service parts.

Toyota parts procurement and supply chain is an iceberg metaphor.
