Hey dudes!

I have a 2004 2wd manual trans Tacoma. It is my DD and lately this winter I have found myself in marginal parking situations which inevitable result in sinking my rear up to the axle because one wheel has no traction. Invariably I then grab my coffee cup and uhaul blanket and go to work, it hasn't failed me yet but I have also gotten stuck while camping in the warmer months in mud etc.

I am curious how much of a benefit a manual rear locker would have for my 2wd in these situations and also for slightly more intentional trail driving in snow and mud situations.

Until then I will make like Linus and rock my blue uhaul blanket.

Cheers,

ANDY

A rear locker could help in those situations.
More info is needed, year, make, model, etc. on your Taco will help with suggestions.

Thanks for reply.

I think I listed all specs you requested in the OP. I don't know the size of the differential. I am curious as to what benefits I can expect with a loaded bed vs unloaded. I typically don't roll with sandbags etc. in winter - however I load the taco up with camping gear in the summer.

should I consider a auto locker? or will that be intrusive on a daily driver?

Thanks.

auburn e-locker, you can switch between limited slip and locked at a flick of a switch.

I'd go with a selectable locker for a daily driver. Either OEM e-locker or ARB. Or you can just get snow chains/cables.

E-locker

Thanks for the reponses fellas. Any idea what is involved with
installing an e-locker for the rear vs an air actuated locker a-la arb?

Does the e-locker (I am assuming we are talking about something like
the TRD version of the tacoma has or the 80 series landcruiser has) perform and have the same traction results as a ARB type air-compressor driven type?

Seems like I should look into what it would take to retro fit a TRD rear e-locker to my 2WD Taco.

Thanks again for responding to a rookie.

I have a question along the same lines:
I'm looking for a locker (07' Taco 4X4 w/sport pkg)
I've been told/under the asumption that the sport pkg has a different size diff than what is offered on the Off Road pkg. Any info would be helpful, and what about a lunch box locker?
