don't mean to pirate your post, hammer1... but I was just wondering if there are any bolt in, flanged sections of exhaust pipe that can be used to bipass/omit the cat? I seem to have cought a little hint to the existance of such a bipass... I think its called a "cat-back-kit" ?? Anybody? Who sells these things and how much?
Ps...Hammer I would go with yournamehere's $75 OE... that's a smokin' deal! OE's are very pricey!

A cat back kit is a system that replaces everything from the "cat back". It doesnt replace the cat.

Hammer, from what ive read the only real difference in the pricey cats vs. the cheapos is the amount of precious metals used in their construction. The precious metals are what does the catalyzing, and the more there is the longer the cat will last and continue doing its job. You get what you pay for.

It's been a long time since I've seen one, but I have seen straight pipes with flanges that could be used in place of the cat. I ran one on an old Camaro for years. I think they were billed as "test pipes" at the local parts store where I got that one.

had one made

I had a local exhaust guy make me one. that way I could use the stock pipe hanger because I kept the bracket in place and re-used the flange. Works great except that now my exhaust sounds like a school bus when it backs down. Not real loud, but the same sound.
Did not seem to make any measurable difference in mileage.
