I’m pretty much a stick with OEM parts guy but due to the frequent reports of seal leaks, I decided to research high performance after market water pumps for the 2UZ-FE engine. Here’s what I found. TRD (Toyota Racing Development) doesn’t offer one. United Components Inc. owns ASC Industries and offers the Airtex Products and Master Brand model # 9257 or 9052. It retails for around $160 with a claim of meeting or exceeding OEM standards but doesn’t give any details or show a cut-a-way of the design. Their factories are in third world countries. Beck/Arnley offers pump # 131-2155 that retails for around $175 with the same claim and no details. GMB, Inc. offers pump # 170-1840 that retails for around $150. This is their original equipment replacement grade pump and by the information provided on their web site, it looks equal to OE. Their web site claims that GMB produces water pumps for Toyota and several other car companies. Their web site also covers a high performance model with higher flow rate at lower RPM’s and lower HP draw plus a ceramic shaft seal: www.gmb.net Unfortunately, this model is not offered for the 2UZ-FE engine. Aisin Auto offers pump # 3000-167168 that retails for around $140. Per their web site, Aisin appears to be Toyota’s water pump supplier for the 2UZ-FE engine, at least the ones going into the Tundra V-8. The 1999-04 Tundra V-8 and the 1998-06 LC use the same water pump # 16100-59275-83 that sells for $131 dealer retail and $105 dealer wholesale: http://www.aisinauto.com/waterpumps.htm No details are given on the pump design. Their manufacturing plant is in London, KY. Unless someone finds something better, I’ll stick with OEM.
