I got the TRD which is basically the same except for no bottom "scoop" thats on the afe, not sure why it's there. technically you are sucking in warm air from the engine defeating the purpouse of a CAI, also the actual engine intake where the pipe connects to is smaller than the main opening where the CAI box mounts to the fenderwell so I see no need to have another intake hole, even if the box had 7 holes you can't get any more air into the engine than the throttle thing unless you go SUPERCHARGER. lol

I just ordered a TRD unit from my local stealer. I received the monthly book of coupons and it had a 20% off any part purchase, so I applied that to the list price:idea: and, well, it made it less than the AFE by a significant amount;).

Question

AFE makes the TRD one, The AFE costs less, thats why I went with them.

My local stealership sends out 20% off coupons, on the net also, for those in local clubs. I picked up the TRD for the same as the AFE. So I got the TRD. I went to get it yesterday and met the GM while I was up. I asked how serious i should take the warning on the box that says "for racing and offroad use only, may void warranty". He said not at all serious, truck will not have a problem passing emissions. Also said he hasn't heard of one not passing because of this mod.

I have a question though. When you diconnect the orignal housing for the filter, it says to use the 10mm rachet...its actually 12mm. You re-use those when you bolt down the aftermarket box. Did anyone who made this install have an issue with the bolt to the left (looking from the passanger side of the engine bay) of the one provided by TRD not bolting in all the way? Both of the other bolts tightened nicely, third didn't. The box is a little loose, and the bolt wont go in any more. Would this compromise performance? if so, what would be a good fix? Thanks

How much HP does it add to your FJ? is it dyno tested?

I also have the TRD CAI but I switched/use the AFE PRODY S (oil-free) P/N 21-90044 for off-roading specially when the trails are dusty in the summer.
