Advice on cheap commuter motorcycle options

For what it's worth, I think the Honda or the KLR would be your best bet. The only down side of the Honda, is that it's 50cc over the cut off for cheap insurance. It will cost you almost $600 for basic insurance, assuming you have your 40% discount. None the less, it will be the more fun bike on the street, will likely have the better brakes, and be a nice comfy ride.

The KLR will give you awesome fuel mileage, and parts are plentiful and cheap, and it's cheap to insure. Power will be adequate, but not exciting. They are decent trail bikes.

The KZ looks rough.

I don't see the GS550 pic, but they were good bikes, although I am usually put off by mods on older machines.

The other bikes are 2 strokes, and will use a lot more fuel.

There is a nice BMW K100 on there for $2500. It's been there for many months. I'll bet you could get it for $1500, but again, insurance would be expensive, as are parts.

I now ride a BMW K75RT with ABS, and love it. :)

Happy hunting!

IMHO, the K75 is twice the bike as the K100. I rode a flying brick for about 7 years. The K75 is a better bike like the CB550 was better than the CB750. Better balance.

What about this one?

Looks like butt... but it appears to be in decent shape, and comes with bags?
