So I heard form an 80 series owner that if you advance the timing in an 80 series around few degrees you will gain hp . does the same thing can happened to a v8 in 100?
What are the consequence of doing so?
With doing that do I reduce the engine life?
Gas mileage?
thanks guys

The 80 has a distributor that can be rotated to advance or retard the timing. Hundy's have coil packs that fire when they get a command from the ECU. So, BTSOM how you'd advance the timing, other than a gimmick chip or similar...high $$$ and not much of a hp increase.

Advance the timing, and you may need higher octane fuel.

I doubt you'd be able to feel a difference in power nor a measurable increase in mileage.

Modern cars with electronic fuel injection are already designed to run edge of pre-ignition and detonation. Not primarily for power (though it does absolutely effect that) but for efficiency and emissions.

Like hankinid says, you'd need electronic modes, via piggyback, chip, flash to 'advance' timing. But then you'd need more octane too to really take advantage of additional power. The stock programming likely has at least maps to optimize 91 octane, though it runs just fine on 89 octane.

Making more power on modern engines is really more about increasing volumetric efficiency (VE). Fancy way of saying mods to help the engine breath. Though most mods, only serve to move the powerband around, rather than making more power across the board.
