the tube that the transmission dipstick goes down into the pan.

OK, just to be perfectly clear, I actually pour transmission fluid down the tiny tube that holds the transmission dipstick. They really should have re-thought that terminology. Not sure why the word "oil" even needs to be involved.

"Automatic Transmission Fluid" is oil with solvent additives.

Get a funnel that fits into the dipstick tube and slowly add fluid.

Tedious but thats' how they designed it. Some things Toyota did with the land cruiser doesn't make sense but other things make up for those shortcomings.

If you're just adjusting the level or topping off it's ok, but if you have to refill that way after draining the system, tedious is a huge understatement. That's why I made a connector for the cooler return line so I could attach a hose to it and let it fill directly from a gallon jug rather than filling a funnel a few tablespoons at a time.

So if people fill through the dipstick what's the little reservoir with a T on it and at ATF label?

Power steering fluid. Easier to fill!

The dipstick tube is not convenient to fill a emptied transmission. You can only fill a small amount at a time, and on my 2H engine, I need to hold the jug with the my arms extended for a long period of time, that's kind of exhausting!
