Anyone done this before.

Going to use the 80 to tow some of my stuff across the country.

Found an old pop up 14ft frame with trailer brakes for a screaming deal and most likely will be picking it up. Build a wood deck and i'll be ready.

Adding a 7 pin connector to the 80's 4 pin looks pretty straight forward as does wiring up the brake controller.

Only thing i'm trying to figure out is which wire to splice into on the back of the brake pedal switch to get the signal.

Room is extremely tight there which isn't helping me much.

Hope this helps

Kinda does :D

Up on closer inspection today the trailer actually has hydraulic surge brakes so no need for the controller now.

Now all I need is a way to test those brakes. Takes a lot of force to activate so I can't exactly jack it up and spin the wheel and then activate the brakes.

I towed my 17ft Aluminum Duck boat to URE from Raleigh once. ONCE. I can't imaging towing much of anything clear across the county behind an 80. Godspeed, and props to you for having MUCH more patience than I do.

Sorry, I'm of zero assistance on the brake controller wiring.

I've towed my little kayak/camping trailer behind the 80 and never had any issues, barely knew it was back there except going to Sherando.

Now towing it behind the 40 is another story!

Pulled that enclosed 14 foot trailer with just a dirt bike behind the wifes 80 and will never do that again. I think just because it was an enclosed with the flat nose to it was the reason but i knew it was there as it did not like it at all.

Well I won't be towing anything major..... this thing is a bare 14ft pop up frame...... weighs all of 400lbs soaking wet.

heaviest it will be is 2500lbs loaded up.

I will know it is there but whatever it'll get my personal stuff back to LA with me at least.

Only grades to really worry about are going up to asheville and flagstaff..... other than that and some rolling hills in new mexico, hwy 40 is pretty flat

You are correct as i pulled my old Army trailer and it was fine behind it. Heck, wife had a Dodge Ram 1500 5.9 gas engine with auto trans that could not pull that trailer with my harley in it down south. It fought it the entire way. Behind my one ton i do not feel it though.
