Anybody have experience doing this? I have heard that you can just bolt in an underdash component that ties into existing duct work???

I hope to read good feed back. I recently bought my 85 fj60. Every one I had looked at had A/C. Go figure the only thing not on my list of things to look for "in the pooring rain and 40 degrees out" was A/C. Half way home cruising down the interstate "warm and cozy" and "you idiot" no A/C switch. My rig was originally sold in Alaska. NO A/C Its on the list of wants after the list of needs. I was hopeing I could get an original unit and my existing plumbing under the dash was basically the same as an A/C model? We can only hope!

I did a search on A/C install.
Basically the unit out of another rig will fit in. Need to replace the fan relay. Do the basic A/C stuff. Dryer, evac, leak check, oil etc, I think it would be a good idea to cost out a new or rebuilt compressor? Will need to use an alternate refrigerant then R12 "unless you know a refer guy"
The fun hasent even started and my list is growing. Got to love it!

True, I have retrofitted A/C into my '82 BJ60 (not an option in that year for Canada). It can be done and it is not hard.

I've done it with no problems... just need a donor. or all the parts....

thanks Ya'll

Hopefully it will be straightforward .... I bought the truck when i lived in the colorado high country so a/c was not a big deal even in summer.... now live in NC high country and in summer if you go to town or travel to the big city you want air..... thanks
