Anybody know why the actual cigarette lighter in and of itself may have stopped working all of a sudden?

I may be the last guy on the planet who actually uses the cig lighter, and I've grown quite accustomed to it in all honesty. The part we're talking about itself is worth about $1, so I'm not heartbroken.

Anyways, the actual cig lighter ITSELF has stopped working. The fuse in the 12v socket is good. I can charge my phone if I plug in a USB to the same socket, and I can even light a cig with a spare cig lighter in the same 12v socket, so THE FUSE IS GOOD.

Just curious to me as to why the lighter itself would stop working. Push it in, it just stays pushed in. Until I pull it out, at which point it's not hot at all or anything. Pop in a spare cig lighter, it pushes in, warms up, and pops out when it's ready.

I know this is peanuts....but strange to me how something so simple as a cig lighter would just stop functioning randomly.

there's a bi-metallic strip in series that opens up when the resistance coil reaches "cig lighting" temp; it's probably separated from the lead (or fractured). get a new one from the emergency parts aisle at the autopart store

Before I quit smoking, I went through 4-5 cig lighters. Like most other parts, go with OEM if you it to last for more than a few months. The cheap ones never lasted very long.
