I scooped up an Acorn hubcap at the Bakersfield "March Meet" drag race swapmeet for $1. It's pretty stinking straight with a few dings, but the inside is rusted and there is a bit of rust on the outside, mostly around the base, and around the embossed "Acorn". I would bet nobody else there even knew what this hub cap was off of.

What years had this hub cap?

Here is my plan for it. First will be to clean it up as best as I can. I am thinking .000 Steel Wool and chrome polish. I doubt it's worth the cost of having it rechromed as much as I would like to do that. After cleaning it up I am planning on mounting a set of hub cap springs (VW parts from a thread I searched up on hub cap springs) to a newer 16" spare tire steelie, and mounting that on the back of my FZJ80, as a throw back to it's lineage.

If using them for sliders isn't sacrilege .....then this can't be.

The reproductions are very nice.....but you can tell the difference from a clean original. Just saying, a minor dent repair and fine chrome is still worth it. :flamingo:

Don't know how many of you guys venture into the 80 series section. Here is a pic of my plan:

80s look better when you stick old stuff on them. they're really not pretty vehicles and need all the help they can get. ;)

my 80 got it's heritage from a pig
