Usually the temp is tested at the outlets and depends on the outside ambient temps. I think in the low 40'sF is a good number at around 85F for R134. I know some AC people try to tweak it to get to 38-39F. Hope this is what you were asking. Here is a pic of the more proper probe type thermometers used for testing although I have just held a bulb type up against the outlet and it seems to work OK. (hand gets a little cold and tired)
I got 15 degrees improvement or so a couple years ago on another car by soaking the rad fins with Simple Green. Let it soak for a few minutes (cold rad best or it evaporates quickly before working) and sprayed out the rad with the hose. Seemed to remove the accumulated road oil film and dust for better heat transfer. Did the same on the 80 after this good experience, but never did a before/after temp. Mine blows cubes (R12).
