While I escaped a potentially dangerous situation when my ABS went out on my 1998 LX 470 (the light went off just before i started to decend a serious hill), I just received the quote for ABS unit replacement, $2400 from Lexus. Ouch.

I found someone parting out a 2000 Lexus LX and they have the ABS unit.

Does anyone know if the 2000 model year parts are compatible with 1998 (specifically the ABS)?

Short of buying used, does anyone have any other recommendations on how I can get this fixed without breaking the bank?

Thanks in advance.
Pete

The ABS "unit" is attached to the brake booster and master cylinder and hence the $2400 price tag. The question is which part of the unit actually failed. Search "booster" for countless threads.

In any case, I think the 2000-02 booster unit is different than the 98-99's that don't have VSC.

The VSC version has one output for each rear wheel. The earlier ones (and the diesels) have one line for the rear with a T at the rear axle.

Most common problem is a worn out motor, but the booster-pump itself and the master would also be worn at this age.
