The ABS on my Tacoma stopped working, at first the motor would run everytime I would push on the brakes, then it stopped working, then it started working about 3 months ago, and would run everytime I pushed on the brakes, and then it stopped working about a month ago. I pulled all the sensors and cleaned them about a week ago, and they all had what looked like gear oil on them, I am trying to figure out what is going on with it. What is the easiest way to figure out what is going on with my ABS system without taking it to the shop?

I don't know, but do you have a factory service manual? I bought them for both my rigs and they include detailed troubleshooting and theory of op. for the ABS. PM Cruiserdan or call Toyota Motor Publications.

Good luck.

I am looking at my Haynes manual, and it is showing there is a Deceleration Sensor, and I remember that the ABS motor would start running when I slowed down to a crawl in parking lots, so maybe the sensor is bad in my truck? The fuse also looks good, i've checked it many times...

I have the same problem with my 2000. Took it to the dealer and they said
their diagnostics say I have a bad sensor, the problem is, the jackasses at the
dealer couldn't tell me which one was bad. Wanted me to ante up and just replace them all!! When I passed, I was still on the hook for a $90.00 diagnostics fee. I just disconnected my ABS. My local Toyota dealership
is pathetic...so now I am looking for a local shop that can help me. I do want
to fix it, that ABS light is annoying.

Your sensors are not bad, that dealership sounds like they were trying to rape you. There is multiple things that can be done and I can give all the info on how these sensors work and why oil would cause a loss of signal turning your indicator light and throwing a DTC. If your intrested hit me up.
