I am trying figure out the problem with my ABS--the light is on. My cruiser is a 94 and I jumped E1 to TC but the green Cruise light blinks on and off in no particular pattern--any sugestions? From my understanding it should be the ABS light that should be doing the blinking---the diagnosis port is full of what looks to be white electrical grease.

The brake fluid is black--needs to be changed.
The cruise works fine.
When I let off the brakes after coming to a full stop sometimes they feel like they grab right as I'm starting to accelerate--the pads have been on for about 2500 miles.
I adjusted the proportioning valve down by 1/4 inch to accomadate the OME heavy lift.

When I connect Tc and E1 with the short pin removed from the DLC1 the Cruise Control light blinks as well, not the ABS. I too was surprised that it wasn't the ABS light that was blinking. If the light blinks once every 0.5 seconds then that indicates a normal (no malfunction) condition.

My ABS light comes on intermittently, but clears when I turn the engine off. The engine has to be off to do the DLC check - so I'm in a catch 22 situation.

Any other ideas guys?

Do you have a factory service manual?

First thing Dan sent me....but I don't understand why the cruise light is blinking when it is the abs light that has the fault.

I'd pull all four of the ABS sensors and clean them making sure there are no metal flakes, etc. stuck to the magnets.

Also, do you have the CDL switch installed? Fxning correctly - center diff locks?

When shorting is key in ACC position?

The cdl is installed--functions correctly. The key is in the ACC position. I will try cleaning the sensors. The light lit up when my lift was installed so I think the abs cables got overstretched--I was just trying to figure out where to start....

Ahhh, that will do it too! Robbie warned me about this when I installed the 6" springs and I thought I had it dealt with but the first time I really got the rear to flex all the way to the shocks limit the ABS came on and has been on ever since. I pulled the rear ABS wiring harnesses off last night for bench testing them. That's why I even read this post since I was playing around with it myself. Others have commented on how difficult it is to repair or lengthen these so it may be a while before I have ABS back. The pulsing/weird braking behavior made me think about the sensors since they are known to collect any loose metal you have floating around, especially up front with the birfields. Good luck.

Doesn't sound very encouraging.....I think my lift is around 3.5" I recently read in Consumer reports that abs saved 15,000+ lives while airbags saved around 2000 lives in the U.S. and not that we have it but the best is stability control---I just figured it would be handy to have abs :) Good thing I got the ARB :D

Mike,

Where did your ABS harness stretch too much? I was looking at the wires last night, and figured that they should be fine since they run down the upper control arms, but apparently this isn't true.

Thanks,
