Headed up to the Fort Ross area above Jenner in Norcal tomorrow night.

Any central CA folks want to meet up for an abalone eating festival on Saturday eve, let me know.

Myself and two friends will be camped and diving in the area.

You mean snorkeling ;)

Snorkeling = diving (as we actually "dive" down to get the elusive abalone.

Tank Diving (scuba) = SCUBA diving

I have been doing it for 24 years and we often dive in 50' feet of water for bigger ab. That, my friend, is "diving".

Only beat me by about 4 years there. But it has been a while since I have been up on the northern Ca coast for abs..

I had one fo the local wardens slam me for using the term "Diving" for abs..

My max is about 35ish feet. Much past that, I can't stay down long enough to matter.

Sounds like that warden had a power trip, as many of them do.

Although, I have met some pretty cool GWs up there and they have a tough job trying to keep up with the poachers.

Some of them need to lay off of the obvious law abiding divers.

Our motto is to abide by the letter of the law and we won't have any trouble.

Diving / Snorkeling / Freediving / all the same thing.

Now, if you would have said "Yes officer, I am going SCUBA diving for some abalone", I could see his point.

You get down 35' or 50' on a breath of air and really start to realize your terestrial existence fairly quickly. I have got a few lunkers down deep though, but you have to be quick.

If you ever make it up here, let's "dive".
