This is likely a dumb question. I have a 99 4runner., sr5 4wd, 3.4. I am swapping the transmission, old one died, found a good used one. It has an a340f and integrated transfer case. The one I recieved still has the transfer case attached. I was told I was only getting the AT. My question is, can you split the transfer case from the transmission? I assumed I would not be recieving a transfer case, but I now have two.

certainly., it has to! Maybe get into the manual for it at the top of the 95 section..you can pull off a manual for your truck and find pictures to assist.
or here is a link to the manuals http://www.ncttora.com/fsm/index.html

There is clearly a proceedure for it in the FSM, but I read somewhere that there are combinations that do not come apart. I just can't figure out why the salvage yard sent the tcase. I guess I will call him. Thanks.

definitely a t-case, 2 output shafts?

Oh yes, it is a tcase for sure. A shaft going north and one south, unles of course the truck is facing a different direction;p.
