got a buddy who's looking to put an old yj back on the road...needs a drive train

he's jealous of how relaible the cruisers are and the simplicity of the tranfercase (no vac hose operation)

I told him about a parts cruiser being sold out of GA that is cheaper than a new engine/tranny for this jeep

Has anyone ever put a cruiser drive train under a YJ? I told him to also use the FJ60 front/rear axels and just cut down the drive shafts to fit. and make the appropraite mods to fit it on the jeep leaf springs.

Kind of a poor mans FJ40 if you will

I would think a mini truck drivetrain might be a beter option, especially considering cost difference and reliability.

i don't know a whole lot about the mini trucks....have a few customers that come in with them and from idle conversations they seem to have more tranny/engine issues than the cruisers but considering the age difference (and the ability to put a VW TDI diesel engine on the mini truck tranny) that might be a pretty good idea

Think about how many more mini trucks and 4runners there are out there than cruisers, and how fanatical most cruiser people are about maintenance. We dont just have vehicles that last 300K on their own, but will proper maint many will do that no problem.

I just know how much cheaper mini stuff is compared to cruiser stuff since I bought my truck several months back. If a tranny goes out you can buy another one for $250 used easy. Only engine issues I know of are with the 3.0 V6, but even those are kinda blown out of proportion depending on who you talk to.
