It was great...it was warmed up on a hot FJ engine before consumption...had lots of stew left over but the apple pie was all consumed in quick fashion.
That aint right. Why were we not invited?

sorry...it was not an organized or official club run...just a few getting together to explore/research and verify satellite imagery and topo map study we have done since our run to Uwharrie last Summer.... and find out what is available in extreme western North Carolina for a possible group run in few months.
Only plan we had was when and where to meet on Friday...and everything else was subject to open roads, camping locations each night, weather and time. That is not conducive for a large group..so it was decided to keep it to 6 trucks or less for the group as not to be too cumbersome for real exploration rather than something that is planned each day. We had no plan other than to wheel all day...camp at night..and do it again before going home. I think it was successful but needs to be worked out more before a large group can be taken up there to make sure it is all good.
By the way...54*F for high on Friday...down in upper 20s that night....60s on Saturday for high...down around freezing again that night....and Sunday was 39*F at 10am with full bright sunshine the entire time.

Looks like it was a good time
Also worth noting: only 3 rigs did the heavy exploring portion of this trip and it took nearly all day. If we had taken all 6 rigs into the wild, we would have never made it back to camp before dark. All three rigs took some carnage, from heavy pinstriping to bent sheet metal and bumpers. The taco messed up a front diff output bearing and seal, which required a parking lot fix to replace a seal in the differential to get him home without leaking out all his diff fluid.
To repeat Brock's sentiments, this is NOT the kind of trip you should expect your club officers to plan as a club event until the logistics are fully borne out. Once GPS tracks and firsthand observations are analyzed we will try to plan a trip that would work for a larger group.
Consequently, if anyone wants to scout out some new trails for club use, then I encourage you to do so. Just make sure you are not disrespecting any private property or breaking any local/state/federal laws.

How did the fj62 do ?
Pretty well - did the trek under its own power the whole time, although the driver sprouted some gray hairs in the process. Took some paint off the driver's side and bent the front bumper pretty good.

yep, but she got up everything with open diffs front and rear in fine fashion. now the quality of the ride was questionable as I was pissing blood after riding with Dbenke in the beast.....but other than that she did great.

Good I think the fj62 is the best us 4 door land cruiser . If we could get non us model another story

I said this a couple times over weekend...not positive but in my opinion the Land Cruiser has something about its build or components or something that makes it perform exceptionally well even in stock configuration with open diffs front and rear.
I had Jeeps (Wrangler and Cherokee) with open diffs and mud terrains that I could never do half the things I see done in similarly configured 60 series rigs....unless it is more about experience but still think there is something about how the four wheel drive works. I was just in awe to be truthful....that the 60 series did so well.
Am I experiencing STOCKHOLM SYNDROME or is there some truth to my thoughts?
